Pr. Zardari says Karachi culrpits will be punished
KARACHI: President Asif Ali Zardari has said that the culprits behind the recent incidents of lawlessness in Karachi will be apprehended and brought to justice in accordance with the law, reported ARY NEWS.
He advised the people to show restraint and remain patient till the investigation process is completed. “No one will be allowed to disturb the peace of a mega city like Karachi,” the President was quoted as saying during a high level meeting he chaired here Tuesday to obtain law and order situation with particular reference to ongoing target killings in Karachi.
The meeting was attended by Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan and Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah besides the members of the Core Committee comprising of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, Sindh Senior Minister Pir Mazharul Huq (PPP) and IT Minister Raza Haroon (MQM) informed that in the meeting a Peace Committee, headed by the Sindh Chief Minister, was formed which would have 2-4 members each from PPP and MQM and would meet fortnightly.
Pir Mazharul Huq said various issues were resolved amicably. He said the committee would pre-empt the situation, take necessary remedial steps and share information with each other.
He said the President asked both the parties to sit together and work out a strategy in advance as nothing was achieved once an incident occurred. He hoped that in future there would be no possibility of occurrence of such incidents.
He said an organized conspiracy was hatched for to create rift between MQM and PPP but today’s talks have produced good results.
“Let the conspirators know that their machinations are not in the interest of country and Sindh. The province will not be benefitted by giving ethnic color to recent incidents in Karachi”, he added.
He appealed to TV channels and media to avoid creating dissention between the members of two sides as it would only aggravate the conditions and create acrimonies.
IT Minister Raza Haroon said they were thankful to the President who listened to their view point with patience. He said we apprised him about their apprehensions and an agreement was reached for action against the culprits, so that terrorists were eliminated.
He said both the parties will work together with a reconciliatory approach and will hold meetings every fortnightly and conspiracies will not be allowed to succeed.
He said the incidents taking place in Karachi were not a fighting between PPP and MQM but drug and land mafias and criminals were behind these incidents and action should be taken against them.
Replying to a question Pir Mazhar said President Asif Ali Zardari has given clear instructions that there should not be humiliation of any side and there should not be breach of “chaddar and char divari”.
To another question, he said the issue of appointment of administrators is still unresolved and a meeting of core committee will be held on Wednesday night at Chief Minister’s House in which this issue will be finally resolved.
He said both sides have reached closer to agreement and it has been decided that reconciliatory approach will not be abandoned.
President Zardari later met a delegation of PPP workers and legislators from Lyari as well, he told the newsmen.
